Breadth Piece

So I finally started the breadth project that was due last month. I think it took me so long to come up with an idea was because I had no creative idea of what I wanted to do. I decided to do a transfer again---I was a little scared to try this again with how horribly it turned out for me last semester. It actually transferred and did not wipe off, which was a plus. The way it printed from the computer though left streaks which I am not a big fan of because I like things really clean and crisp, but with the assignment it actually works to my advantage because the streaks add to the theme of repetition. I still feel like it looks incomplete so I am open to any ideas.

arttttttttttttt

This year I have learned that you really need a concept for your or for it to be successful. I have learned that people perceive art many different ways and what some people think is controversial others do not. Also that lighting change instantly change the mood of a photograph. I have also learned that it is challenging being inspired by this town to make art. I feel like it is a good thing that I will be leaving washington. I am creatively worn out by this place. This year i have really been focusing on portraits and photography. I feel like have become more aware of the human form and the body by all the portraits I have done recently--so this has mane my pictures a little bit more successful. Recently though I feel like my pictures are not as clear as they need to be which is something I need to work on, along with my drawing skills obviously. In three years I will just be starting to really focus on my major in college. At this point in time I am planning on double majoring in photography and graphic design so instead of taking a backseat, art will be ridin shotgun. So far this year I have gotten a lot of help and constructive from my teachers and classmates. I really like to hear what others think about my art or if there is something I need to fix because it is always nice to hear someone else's honest opinion.

Bloom

Bloom is coming up and it is time for me to enter pieces. It is surprising how fast it has come. I feel like this year has gone by so fast, I guess I have just been really busy with school and figuring out what I am doing with college. I can enter up to three, but I have no idea what to enter. I am for sure entering all photography, but  I am torn if I should enter pieces from the summer or my newer photographs. So what I want to know form all of you is for you to give me some advice or you input of what three pieces I should enter??!!!.....

I know you may not remember everything I have done this year, but maybe some  of the names of my photographs and a simple description will help you to remember.

Finley (under the blanket)
finn (in swimsuit with piece of hair in face)
one leg (boy kicking water)
Center of Attention (boy-like pop art)
Hookie (person walking down the hall)
Blooming Eyes (was a possible cover for bloom)
Solo Act (finley in tutu holding microphone)
Beneath the Shadow (line shadows over face)

Underwater.

One type of photography that I have always wanted to try is an underwater shoot. For some reason every time time I look at underwater photography it really inspires me. The interesting shapes the clothes take on underwater and the movement of the hair is beautiful. To me everything is just so much more delicate and beautiful underwater. I can't wait until the day that I can do this. The only thing holding me back is the equipment. So until then I will just keep admiring.....

Show Season

Show season is beginning and what pieces do I want to enter?
1. Finley - this by far has ben my most successful piece at previous art shows this year. I also just really love how Finley is placed in the picture.
2. One Leg - For some reason I just find this picture really interesting. It shows movement and also the composition of the boy is interesting in the way he is standing.
3. Center of Attention - This piece is different from the rest of my work, because it has color. This piece actually shows that I can do something other than black and white images.
4. Solo Act - Another Finley picture. She has been in some of my most successful pictures. I think it is because the way I show children is unconventional and unposed that make her such a success as my model.
5. Behind the Shadow - I had always wanted to do a shadow shoot, and I think it actually turned out really well. If you look at the picture it looks nothing like my sister in person. I also really like the way that her eye look in the photograph.

I feel that everyone in this art portfolio class excels in there own style, so I can't necessarily say that one student stands out from the other for the simple fact that no one in this class produces the same art. We each have our own ideas and projects that are completely different. My work stands out from my peers because it is completely different from everyone. I am the only one in this class that is solely committed to photography.

I like art shows! I think it is a good accomplishment to be a part of art shows so I don't take it for granted. Yes it hard work trying to get everything ready for the shows so yes it is frustrating, but also in the end it is worth it. And yes I have anxieties about the art shows because even though I like and understand my art doesn't mean that the judge necessarily will. I know I will complain about all the upcoming art shows because that means that I have to do more work. But hey I am LAZY!! It will be worth it when it is all over with.

Sketch Style.

This week we have a still life to draw. I hate still lifes. For some reason I can never get it to look right. The shapes are usually okay, but I never get the shadows and highlights to look right. I think that since i have it in my mind that  I will not like it I don't really try my hardest. Cause once I mess up the first time  I don't really go back and try to fix it. So instead of trying to make the still life to look really realistic I think that I am going to try a different style, possibly a sketch style?! I haven't decided. I just know that still lifes are not my strong suit. So instead of attacking it in a defeated manner I think  I will just look at it a different way.

an example of the style I may try.....

bored...continued

So supposedly free choice blog means talk about art, so to comment on my blog lets talk about how the site that I listed to give people entertainment are actually works of art.

Postsecret-----
Looking at this site it shows me everyone is a little artist in their own right. You can tell that everyone if they try to be is creative, and it really inspires me. It has helped me to believe that art is not a joke. It can be very therapeutic and allows me to express myself.

Awkward Family Photos----
So since I am into photography and this site is from professional photos it is almost educational for me. I know the pictures are funny, but it shows me what not to do. ha So even though yes I laugh at the photos it is a clear reminder of poses and lighting gone wrong and I am thankful for that.

I hope this fills in my "related to art" requirement.

A shark controversial?! really

Controversial would be one of the last words to come to mind when I look at these pieces. They make me think of how simple art can be, but how it takes a creative mind to take something like a shark preserved in formaldehyde into a piece of art. I look at art as art. I cannot decided if an artist's work is too controversial or not because the way I see art is completely different form anyone else's view. Interpretation of art can be completely opposite between two people. So if this is seen as controversial, then I feel like there will be a lot more controversial pieces in the future.

TWO.

1.  Breadth Portfolio- I have 14 that I like. I have others that I have made but not necessarily that I want to display in my portfolio.
Concentration Portfolio-I have 8 all photography of black and white portraits.
2.My biggest weakness is to find the time and be motivated to take lots and lots of pictures!!
3. My "best" memory, actually worst, of 1st semester is definitely the day when Art club was on the field trip to Chicago and I was the only student in art portfolio. Guess who my sub was??? Yep Ms. B. Not my favorite person because I honestly don't like student teachers. so anyway back to my "best" memory. i was sitting in class trying to get my assignment done and B would not stop talking to me. She continued to repeat the same conversation over and over again, and by the end of the hour I got nothing done.
4. I have learned that I really enjoy taking portraits. I like to take photography of children. I have learned that in my artwork I try to catch people in their natural habitat, unposed. It make the picture feel real. About myself, I have leaned that I am a perfectionist. if I don't like the project that I have made I would rather just completely change or get rid of it. I don't want to put together a decent portfolio. I want to produce and exceptional portfolio.
5. I expect you to give me pointers and critique my work so that I can correct my errors and fix my habits now rather than struggle later.  Also, maybe teach me some more easy tricks on Photoshop. You can push me by giving me a topic of what you want maybe. cause usually when i am given a little direction my mind  creates many ideas. I just need a starting point

A never ending list

I am nearing the end of my high school career, and with the end of the first semester in sight there are many things I would have done differently and many things that I hope to complete by the end of the year. So here are my two lists:

#1 - things I would have done differently this semester
1. I wish I would have been more motivated.
2. Time management. I should have used my class time to its full advantage. this semester almost all of my assignments have seen started and completed out of class.
3.  I wish I would have been more creative. this semester i was really in a slump, probably for the reason that I could not get inspired by the town of Washington.

#2 - my goals in this class for next semester
1. To experiment with lighting and angles.
2. To solely focus on photography.
3. To use more film.
4. Try the Holga camera.
5. Do an emulsion transfer.
6. Try to find new models, or take more pictures of kids.
7. Just take more PHOTOS!
8. Sharpen my skills in photoshop.

I feel that throughout this whole semester me strongest pieces have been my summer pieces. In particular, My style as a photographer has been shown in my two black and white images from the summer (Wet Dreams and One Leg). But, as the semester has neared its end I feel that my motivation has come back, and  my latest photos are strong as well.
